About the Author Chanda is a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, living and toiling away in Tennessee as a glamorous, over-paid freelance copywriter. Her fiction has been recognized by a number of small publications and contests, including Glimmer Train, though she is mostly a complete enigma. She enjoys a strong drink, a real laugh, and traversing the globe in pursuit of life’s meaning. She hates writing bios. This is her first novel.

The story is delicate, thoughtful, tragic and poignant. It tells the story of a young woman who has been terribly victimized and yet experiences her horror with a gentle acceptance that makes it eerily beautiful in its tragedy. What Chanda has painted here upon the page is the type of poignant classic that gets taught in college classes-- for no other reason than its brilliance and beauty and the multi-layered dimensions of thought. This story is so good, and yet its gut-wrenching, and haunting and relate-able.Read this story and you will fall in love with its characters, and silently hold their hands from the first word to the last page.

From the first page, I was intrigued by the mystery of the protagonist, C, and Grubbs delivers the experiences and memories of C in bite size pieces to disclose the truth of a tragically, beautiful tale. Grubbs ability to paint a picture with words is exquisite, and it provokes an introspective look into one’s own self and perspective of experience. This novella was so ethereal and dynamic, I immediately read it a second time to enjoy the beauty of the story once more and to appreciate the finesse and originality in it’s telling.

By turns both hilarious and poignant, Albedo follows characters who swing between touching relatability and delightful creepiness, and all in such an accessibly quick read. The novella truly is an underappreciated literary form.
