As a fellow CZT, I can heartily recommend this book for anyone who would like to learn how to create your own Zendalas. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, and give multiple options for construction as well as design. I'm very glad I invested in this book - I've already created 3 beautiful designs based on Deborah's suggestions, and I'm sure I'll be doing many more in the future. Brava!!

By Colleen McMahon Sanders of the River is the first in a series of books that popular turn-of-the-20th-century author Edgar Wallace wrote, all of which featured Sanders, the commissioner for an undefined area of British colonial Africa (from the descriptions, probably the Gold Coast/Nigeria area). Though described as a novel, the book is really a series of linked short stories.I really don't know how to feel about this book. On one hand, Edgar Wallace is an excellent writer in terms of setting atmosphere and telling a story. Africa in colonial days is a completely foreign place in terms of my prior knowledge, and he makes me really see, hear, feel and at times even smell the setting he writes about. The stories move along quickly and Sanders is something of a stoic nonentity as a hero, but it's always interesting to watch how he acts to resolve various problems that face him.Most of the stories are the same: Sanders, as the British commmissioner, is the highest authority in the land under his control, and holds sway over various native groups living in that area. The plots involve either a foolish white person showing up with little to no understanding of the natives, and getting himself into trouble, or one or the other of the native tribes stirring up trouble. Either way, Sanders has to intervene and resolve the situation.So my mixed feelings come in in that, there is no nice way to put this, the stories and the whole set up are racist to the core. Sanders exemplifies the sort of person Kipling meant when he urged British men to "take up the white man's burden". The natives are continually portrayed as simple, superstitious, easily manipulated, and not very bright. At best they are portrayed as child like and needing a firm hand; at worst they are stupid, greedy, violent brutes. Sanders' role is to watch over and protect the "good" (well behaved, docile) natives and intervene with strong measures when required. He resolves most native "uprisings" and crimes against other tribes or (heaven forfend) one of those foolish white travellers by hanging the ringleader. Lesser offenders are packed off to some coastal location to serve a prison term of hard labor. In Wallace's portrayal, the natives don't seem to really mind or resent Sanders' authority but recognize it as superior; one man, facing hanging by Sanders, even compliments him on the rumor that he is recognized as someone whose hangings are said to be quick and painless.If you are interested in reading popular literature that very much portrays the British imperial attitudes at their highest point, this is a book you will want to look at. It's very readable and at times even funny (Sanders has a very dry wit), but the pernicious attitudes and assumptions underlying the stories gives me pause. It's not something I'd be comfortable giving to or reading to a child too young to understand the historical context. Even with my very mixed feelings and distaste for the racial attitudes on display, I am still interested in reading more of the stories in this series, particularly Bosambo of the River, as Bosambo is a very intriguing native character, sort of a charming trickster type, and I am hoping some of the stories are told from his point of view.

By WOODWARD Leslene If you like adventure in exotic jungles, a dash of comedy and marvellous characters, this is for you. The only qualification is that you must remember--and the publishers also warn you of this--that Edgar Wallace was writing before, across and after, the First World War, and the philosophy and culture of "the British Empire" as it was in those days, is naturally totally different to the world of today. But in addition to the adventure, humour, etc., the Sanders books are a genuine eye-opener to just how difficult a life the white policemen of the African jungles lived. Quickest contact between two points was by carrier pigeon, to get from A to Z you walked through jungle for two weeks, or if you were lucky took a small steamer up a dangerous river. But for a sit-down-feet-up-enjoy-yourself read, they are great.

African adventure from a bygone era By HowdyDave I see a lot of reviews that call this book "racist"...If it had been written within the last 40 years or so I might agree, but it wasn't... this book originally came out in 1911."RACIST"? I don't think so...But there is a good dose of Imperialism, which is merely another mindset from yesteryear.This is a fairly straightforward and honest snapshot of the mindset of bygone days.Looking at it in this fashion, it not only provides entertainment and adventure, it also provides us with a bit of insight into our cultural past.Light reading, fairly short stories, and a lot of fun!

He loved it, and the story had him asking a lot of questions. It's never too early to start teaching children about how to effectively deal with bullies and making sure they know how to get their voices heard. Beautifully written and illustrated- fun bright colors and characters that the children can relate to and draw in their attention. Thanks for a great book!

The book arrived the day after I found out he was having problems. This book helped me teach him to speak up and that the bully was probably hurting inside and that's why he teased others. I highly recommend reading this book with your children. They all need the confidence to stand up and speak out!

The Book gets 6 Rings and 5 Mics By Phillmatic365 Jimmy “The Blueprint” Williams’ hilarious, yet quite insightful views on the world at large are filtered through the perfect microcosm, sports! His book, S.P.O.R.T.S. (Smart People Only Read the Sports) is a modern day B-Boy bouillabaisse, part memoir, part slang editorial, part common sense handbook that could’ve have easily be titled “Cleats, Rhymes and Life.”Flavored with a slew of Hip-Hop quotables, pop culture references and an Illadelph State of Mind, S.P.O.R.T.S. is a magnificent stream of consciousness through which Williams’ self-awareness, humor and honesty take center stage. Players labeled as “GOATS” and Ideas long thought to be gospel in sports are challenged and at times flat-out “Ethered” (No Nasir Jones).Ironically after reading S.P.O.R.T.S. it did feel like it was the Illmatic of sports books. You need a little clarity? Check the similarities. S.P.O.R.T.S., Williams’ debut book was a lifetime in the making. By design it’s short in length (II) but filled with depth and insight using words to a paint picture of author’s world. The genuine realness and creativity are in stark contrast to most of what’s being spat these days. Like Illmatic, S.P.O.R.T.S. has one guest appearance, Devin McMillian, wrote the foreword. Burton In his debut book, Jimmy "The Blueprint" Williams - aka "The Black Victor Newman" - breaks down the sports issues of the day in a way that, quite frankly, no one else can. For example, in "S.P.O.R.T.S.", Williams effortlessly works in references to both "The Karate Kid" and R&B singer Ralph Tresvant into an essay about the unwritten rules of baseball, and somehow, it all manages to come together.An unabashed hip-hip and pop culture junkie, Williams - politically incorrect and proud of it - writes in a conversational tone that's easily accessible to the reader: If you've ever had a debate about sports in your local barbershop, you'll love what Williams brings to the table in this book.S.P.O.R.T.S. is a highly entertaining read, and I'm looking forward to what "The Blueprint" has in store for us in the future.

This book is hilarious and you have no choice but to agree with what he is saying in each chapter because majority of what he is saying is 99.95% true. This book had me laughing from beginning to end. Hopefully he is working on a follow up to this book. ESPN need to take a look at this and seriously analyze... its genius!!

About the Author

Keith Kovach was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1962, and in 1986 he received his MFA in photography from the University of South Florida. For over ten years, he worked as a freelance artist specializing in multimedia development, animation, and commercial photography. From 1999 to 2004, he taught at Indiana University—Purdue University Indianapolis. He is currently an associate professor of art at the University of Central Florida.

In 2004, Kovach was a Senior Fulbright Scholar in media studies, conducting collaborative research and lecturing at the National University of Arts, Bucharest, Romania. His book Vienna in the Winter: A Visceral Experience of Time and Place is a collection of images made during his grant from the Austrian Fulbright Commission and Quartier21/MuseumsQuartier Artist-in-Residence 2015.

The artist's photographs of the parks, people, and architecture of Vienna are deftly complemented by the journal entries of his wife Linda. She details their daily adventures as they explored the city together and interacted with other artists and Fulbright administrators. I recommend this book to anyone who appreciates fine art photography. The journal entries detail the couple's brief, rather Hemwayesque flirtation with an old, beautiful city and add an appropriate framework for viewing the photographs.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. NOT Keto... By Loves Travel Many recipes are NOT ketogetnic nor are they any more "holday" than any other cookbook. It's frustrating to see authors jump on the "keto" bandwagon and produce something that doesn't comply with a keto lifestyle - low carb, high fat. Granted there are some that comply, but the recipes are inconsistent. Low fat products? Lentils and split peas? Potatoes? Maple syrup? If I ate the "Keto Seafood Chowder," loaded with "6-8 potatoes," I'd be bumped out of ketosis for a long while. And people interested in a keto lifestyle using this cookbook would likely have less than great results (granted, a person should research the principles and what keto means before moving on to cookbooks, but still....). Additionally, only some recipes have nutritional info included. I notice the high carb recipes in particular lack nutritional info. I'm giving the benefit of 3 stars over 2 only because some of the recipes do look good and might work with a keto food plan, and some have given me ideas I can run with on my own. At the very least, the author should have moved the high carb recipes to another chapter indicating "higher carb" or "for occasional treats," something to that effect. If I hadn't gotten this book for a very low cost, I'd be asking for my money back. Call the book Lower Carb Recipes, but NOT keto.

By Fiona Lane Since the holiday season is just around the corner, I browse around the net and found this book.The cover page of this cook book attracted my attention,thus thought of downloading it.I am satisfied of its content anyhow as I found nice recipes that I'd definitely try to bake this weekend, as a trial run before thanksgiving and Christmas.I like chicken meat so ketogenic chicken wrap as well as slow cooker turkey drumsticks is on my list,finishing with coconut macaroons for the desserts. Yum! Recommend it.

She takes you by the hand as she describes the vegetable gardens and produce markets she visited in Italy. BTW, you won't need to fly out of the country to see one of the most spectacular gardens, The Sebastiani Winery gardens in Sonoma Valley (California). Want to start a garden? Choose the veggies from the Italian Garden Encyclopedia and use the rare seed sources listed in the back of the book. Want to start cooking right away? Thumb through the recipes for inspiration. New to gardening altogether? Read the author's sage advice on planting, maintenance and pest control. I particularly recommend this book to the struggling dieter as it will give you a new appreciation for vegetables and a great workout in the garden!

Unforgettable party menus from your kitchen" is a treasure. I am not that experienced with Indian, Cajun, Asian, or Mediterranean foods, but this book makes me eager to try. Recipes are very concise with the Ingredients listed first, and the Method second. Some of my favorites are the Mini Sausage Quiches; and Bread Pudding with Cranberries, Raisins & Walnuts; and Stuffed Mushrooms. A very personal love is Mixed Green Salad with Apple, Avacado & Walnuts. Lots of new recipes for me as well as some standard comfort foods: Chicken Pot Pie, and Apple Muffins. These Apple Muffins have become such a family favorite, I make them at least once or twice a week. I do add vanilla, and blueberries to suit our family. Vineeth Subramanyam's recipe book is dedicated to his mom and dad so he must have been encouraged to cook by and with his family. This is the perfect recipe book for the new cook, student, as well as the more accomplished chef. All will find delight in the collected recipes. Party Menus, yes — but also wonderful everyday food presented in an unassuming, easy-to-prepare way. This is one ebook, that you will want to print into a cookbook for easy quick access and a wonderful reference to great recipes. A++++++++++

I also love that this book is actually divided into themes. So far my faves are European Bistro and Winter Warmer! I love themes and this author very cleverly works these themes into easy and elegant dinners for friends and family. There is a bit of an emphasis on Indian cooking and I really like that. For those foodies who want to ease into an Indian quisine...this book is perfect for all of us!Great photos, unique themes and great recipes make this book a great addition to any foodie's repertoire. Some of my fave dishes are...the Hearty Chicken Soup, the butternut squash and the Lamb Rogan Josh...yum! There are so many interesting and unique recipes that you will love browsing through it to plan for dinner or a party. Oh yes...I can't forget that there are yummy drinks and desserts, too!I received my book from the publisher for my honest thoughts!

I enjoy cooking food from all over the world and this eBook has lots of recipes to choose from. Basically the best recipes of each place are here. The first one I will try will be the pannacota as I want to include more gelatin in my diet and I think a delicious pannacota it's a clever way of doing this. I never made panacotta before, but the recipe seems easy enough to start of with this one. Love it!

By Matilda Okay, so I got this because I'm a HUGE fan of The Great British Bake Off and I always want to make the stuff on the show.Do you need to be a fan of the show or know Mary Berry to want this cookbook? No.If you love the show will you like the cookbook? YES.There is a huge range of recipes from zucchini bread to Heavenly Chocolate Cake with everything in between like French Pancakes. You get a pretty picture, list of ingredients, and the directions. All of it was or looks simple-- most had 3 - 5 steps and basic ingredients like flour, sugar, butter. And the one ingredient I had to buy (sunflower oil) was easily available at the grocery store (I live in a large city).I first made the Zucchini Loaf (8 ingredients/ 4 steps) and it was delicious. So good I served it as a "side" with dinner because I couldn't stop eating it.To be honest the only thing I thought that might be a bummer was that I was going to have to convert the measurements the way I sometimes have to for European cookbooks/blogs but I didn't.This is definitely a good buy for fans of Mary Berry, The Great British Bake Off, or as a gift for anyone who enjoys baking-- or wants to start.

She’s got some spunk to her. The life and joy radiates from her face features. Her recipes are marvelous. She loves to cook. Even her name is beautiful.Baking with Mary Berry is full of tips, photos, and recipes. Some recipes have as little as three steps to make, and others five. Pies, cobblers, breads, desserts, and a hint of British heritage are some things you will find in the book.Delicious, yet homely dishes and baking goods will be a staple at your home after reading this book. She inspires me to discover new and lovely foods.

19 of 24 people found the following review helpful. Full of Scrumpish Recipes! By Absurd Book Nerd I absolutely love Mary Berry after being introduced to her on The Great British Baking Show. I was always so jealous that I couldn't get one of her cookbooks with American measurements and temperatures. Well, now I can try her recipes without having to worry about conversions. All the recipes are well written and simple to follow. She goes into great details about how to do all kinds of classic techniques, from whisking egg whites to making puff pastry. There were so many recipes I wanted to try, I wasn't sure where to start. So I decided to make Devon Scones, a British favorite. They were just scrummy!!!! I can't wait to try more recipes.
