UNAPPETIZING By Betty Holloway On the strength of his previous books, I will definitely still remain a solid fan of Mr. Walker's; but the only thing I found noteworthy about this book was the synopsis. I truly hope this type of writing is not indicative of what we can expect in the future from one of the most dynamic writers I have ever had the privilege of reading. This plot, along with the characters, was very dry. Felt like the author wasn't really vested in them himself. None of the fire for which Mr. Walker is famous, was infused in the make up of either the hero - Marquis, or the heroine - Nya. Yes, the characters involved were involved in a relatable life like situation - man rises to the top of football fame, forced out by life threatening injury, goes whacko before regaining his sense, uses degree in education to teach and coach girls basketball team, falls for parent of one of the team members, becomes embroiled in her domestic mess, almost loses a part of himself again because of it, finally gets woman, after 90% of book we get a glimpse of a lukewarm sexual introduction. Too damned little, too damned late. Please, Mr. Walker, come back to us with the quality reads you have gotten us accustomed to receiving from you. I have read and written numerous 5 star reviews on your books. Your name always receives automatic 1-click downloads to my iPad: just as this read did; but this one was a great disappointment.Oh well, I am now off to read "Blow by Blow" and pray that it will be a reintroduction into the greatness I have always perceived your writing to be. Forever your fan, I remain.

I loved him as a father, a brother, a coach, just as a character in general. He went through it in this story. My man couldn't catch a break if he had a baseball glove on, that's how crappy things were going for him. Here's where the trouble came for me, as beautiful as he was inside and out, he needed better support or a stronger connection romantically. Something in the connection between these two was just missing for me. I loved the majority of the story, but I almost feel as if Nya wasn't necessary. I even loved Daryl more than I did Nya. Like I said, the story itself was awesome, I loved him with his Lady Grizzlies. Daryl's part was equally as good to me, it was heartbreaking, realistic and raw. Nya, she was just Lisa's mother to me, she almost cost this story a star.

Slow Burn By Madame LeFay I think this may be my favorite Keith Thomas Walker book but since I've only scratched the surface with this prolific and talented writer I can't be certain. The slow burn in this story was what I found most enjoyable and interesting. Marquis Berry was a terrific and imperfect hero in that his numerous challenges were not insurmountable but they were consistent because he could not take his mind off the heroine Nya. I love hearing strong male voices and POV in romance novels and Mr. Walker does not disappoint with Marquis Berry. Nya Edmonds was also a very likable character with a strong presence in the novel. Even when we weren't hearing her inner thoughts we knew what they were and that's a neat trick in any story. I particularly loved the relationship between Nya and her daughter Lisa. The honest back and forth between them was touching and reminiscent of conversations I've had with my own daughter. In fact, both protagonists were so relatable, I felt for them deeply when they were in situations that were unpleasant and no fault of their own. I cannot lie I was disappointed when this story ended and wanted more. I'm greedy like that with an excellent book I feel an emotional connection to; although it's very hard to see how this book could have been improved on by adding to it.
