Chicago, 1971. A marriage broken. A second chance at complicated love.

Jackie Moretti always believed in fairy tale endings. A promising art student in Chicago in the early 1970s with a happy marriage to her childhood sweetheart points to a bright future, until Jackie's world cracks in two.

Six months into the marriage, it becomes alarmingly clear that Jackie's husband Stephen is not the man she thought she married. Even when confronted with overwhelming evidence, her husband cannot admit the truth and blames her for the destruction of their relationship. She tries to cope with the pain by taking on a new job at a local bar, diving into a series of one-night stands, and numbing herself with drugs.

Sexy mechanic Michael Nowak grabs Jackie's attention from their first encounter. The small-time dealer provides both sex and drugs to distract Jackie from her downward spiral. When their feelings turn from lust to something more, Michael gets roped into a larger-scale criminal operation than he ever thought possible. Can their love survive depression, regret, and struggles of the heart or will the second city swallow them whole?

Review By Natasha Jackson - Readers' FavoriteLove's Illusions is the story of Jackie Moretti and the men she's loved, lost and discarded. We meet Jackie in the most unconventional way but it speaks to Cazzola's plans for this young woman. Jolene Cazzola has crafted a story that is engaging and heart wrenching. Watching Jackie's life spiral was devastating. The decisions she makes aren't easy but gives Love's Illusions a reality that keeps you engaged. This story  is not just well written, it is all consuming at times. The sober reality of Love's Illusions is what makes it such a captivating read.BookViral Review   An exciting and sexy read from the very start, Love's Illusions is the new release from debut author Jolene Cazzola. An author who instinctively understands the devices of suspense and tension and uses them to maximum effect, Cazzola ably avoids the genre pitfalls of stringing a series of contrived events one after another in a tedious stream of clichés and in doing so delivers a genuinely atmospheric read.   With all the hallmarks of a popular and enduring series, Love's Illusion is certainly deserving of your attention and is strongly recommended.

About the Author I’m a first time author, but long term creative. After earning my MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, I spent most of my career working in social services, while dabbling in the arts on the side. During that time, I found myself in a place where I needed to know something about accounting – before long, one accounting course turned into an MBA and I was headed down a new road. My life has not been planned. All the roads I’ve taken have zig-zagged between the creative and the analytical realities that surrounded me. No matter what happened, though, there has always been one constant – without fail, I found myself recreating reality in my mind, or in other words – making things up the way I wish they had been. As people or situations entered or exited from my realm, the stories I ran over and over in my mind became more detailed and real to me. But never once did I give a single thought to putting any of them down on paper. I didn’t write; I created with glass, metal, fiber, paper, anything that caught my fancy, except words. Then one day something changed, a familiar pattern emerged, but this time, words were my medium of choice. Before I knew it, the beginnings of Love’s Illusions were forming on my computer. The more I typed – the more I enjoyed it. The pieces of my story were taking form as surely as if they were a piece of sculpture. I love this incarnation! I hope you will too. It isn't enough to write a heart wrenching novel about love and loss, she draws you into her story and makes you feel it alongside her characters. Beautifully written with a plot that keeps you hooked Love's Illusion has made my top ten favourite reads for the year which is especially noteworthy considering this is a debut novel.

Jackie’s story will help you to better understand your mother or grandmother By a grateful reader This is a story made most compelling by its honesty. Jackie develops of heavy dose of self-knowledge as her story unfolds and she is not afraid to share it. That makes her completely believable and it's her truthfulness that draws us in. If you came of age in the 60’s and 70’s as Jackie did, you’ll recognize the widespread social tensions that challenged our culture and our families as changing attitudes about the role of women, sexuality, drugs, and politics caused the world to shift beneath our feet. If you did not, Jackie’s story will help you to better understand your mother or grandmother, or maybe just a bit more about those turbulent years in American culture. This is a strong first novel by a talented writer. I look forward to where Jackie goes next.

By Cecelia Zucconi It can be difficult reading a story where the main character is clinically depressed; however, for anyone who has ever been depressed, the writer does a superb job illustrating it. I though the story was great and you could really get a good sense of what was going on in Jackie's head. Unlike a lot of romance novels that I read, the characters weren't completely one-dimensional, so that was very refreshing! I also like that the main character, Jackie wasn't perfect. So often in stories, writers try to make the main character perfect with only a minor flaw that she thinks is a big deal but no one else does. I loved that Jackie had real problems; it made her feel like she could actually be a real person. Being a millennial, it was interesting reading a story that takes place in the early 70s. There were a lot of terms and drugs, I must confess, I had to google.I overall liked the character Jackie, but she often says that she's a feminist, and then constantly blames herself for the mistakes of the men in her life and depends on men to make her happy/functioning; that got a bit frustrating after a while, but you could see how her childhood caused her to be bad at communicating and a bit backwards in thinking.Overall very interesting and enjoyable read! I'd recommend it!
