You can sit down for a nice break and enjoy a story in its entirety in a few minutes, rather than the hours it takes to read a full length novel. Several of the mostly English, and some American, authors stand out, such as John Emms, whose "The Sounds of the Night" is both humorous and poignant. The henpecked husband is finally free of his domineering wife, but to his utter dismay he finds out he's psychic and is haunted by her obnoxious ghost.Iris Lewis wrote the heartbreaking "Beyond the Pale" in correspondence format, letters to and from Ted, a young soldier inWWI, who is executed for desertion, and his sister, who tries to have him pardoned. Johanna Lipford wrote "Tony Ferro and the Water Witch", where a modern day uneducated dowser - or water witch- competes with a geologist sporting a Phi Beta Kappa key. The result? A beautiful spring at 60 foot depth of the dowser's location, and ten dry wells surrounding it of the geologist's choice. "Billy No Mates" by Don Melbourne features the quintessential grumpy old man who dislikes everybody and everything. But on his suicidal trip he encounters people for who he feels empathy, and finally meets a lady to love.Instead of throwing himself off the cliff as he first planned, he writes his intention on a piece of paper, and decides to throw that over the edge. Then he'll return to his Nel and live happily ever after. At the crucial moment, however, he has a heart attack and slips over the edge after all. No God, please not now!My favorite story was "Body Art", an tale of unrequited and selfless love, by Christine Benson. Jenny is a tough little cosmetologist, but when she runs out of toilet paper and goes to QuikTrip to buy some at sunrise she meets Joey, the guy who could be the one. All except for his tattoo, featuring the name of his "ex", whose wedding day makeup Jenny did some time ago. Even though he and Sharisse are no longer together, that tattoo wasn't going anywhere. What to do? Call Sharisse and tell her Joey really misses her and then just keep going, like the sun that goes on and on, no matter what humans are doing.
