Good Variety By Sandy Toes This little pasta book has something for everyone, with inclusions for Mexican, Asian and of course, Italian flavor profiles. Make no mistake, these are American recipes, the kind you'll find in many kitchens around the country. A few call for canned cream soups, but most use fresh ingredients, or at most, a jar of your favorite red pasta sauce. This doesn't mean you have to use a jarred sauce, of course. I substitute my own homemade sauce, which takes only a few minutes to make.The recipes included are solid, no steps or ingredients are omitted and best of all, the (currently free) Kindle edition has a searchable TOC and all recipes begin at the top of a page. This is the way e-cookbooks should be presented. It lacks an index, but with only 24 recipes, it's not a major omission by any means.My favorite recipe is Lasagna Roll-Ups, a simple and easy alternative to layered lasagna. It's incredibly easy to portion and freeze for a small family. Half the recipe fits in an 8x4 loaf pan. If the author had included recipes for quick classic like Spaghetti Carbonara, spaghetti aglio e olio, and a simple tomato sauce, I'd happily give this 5 stars. As written, though, it's a solid collection. I'm off to check out some of Ms. Scott's other cookbooks.

These recipes prove that she should be in the southern cooking hall of fame . From the front to the back this cookbook is full of great recipes for you to try. By Rafael Marrero Really good book for anyone interested in low/no carb diets also know as ketogenic diets. In the past I managed to lose over 100lbs doing a ketogenic diet without exercise believe it or not. One thing I found useful in this book is that you can buy small test strips from the drug store to test your body for ketosis. This is actually really useful way to monitor your diet if you eat more carbs and worry if it will affect your weight loss. Great book!

I was excited to find that the diet works very easily! Especially while sticking to the 7 day meal plan when starting. I found that the chapter about the benefits and possible side effects helped me to prepare for the consequences and have realistic expectations. This book is great and informative.

Here, David Leatherbarrow offers an entirely new way of thinking of architecture and landscape architecture. Moving beyond partisan arguments, he shows how the two disciplines rely upon one another to form a single framework of cultural meaning. Leatherbarrow redefines landscape architecture and architecture as topographical arts, the shared task of which is to accommodate and express the patterns of our lives. Topography, in his view, incorporates terrain, built and unbuilt, but also traces of practical affairs, by means of which culture preserves and renews its typical situations and institutions.

This rigorous argument is supported by nearly 100 illustrations, as well as examples of topography from the sixteenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries, through the heroic period of early modernism, to more recent offerings. A number of these studies revise existing accounts of decisive moments in the history of these disciplines, particularly the birth of the informal garden, the emergence of continuous space in the landscapes and architecture of the modern period, and the new significance of landform or earthwork in contemporary architecture. For readers not directly involved with either of these professions, this book shows how over the centuries our lives have been shaped and enriched by landscape and architecture.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Quality reproductions of antique fashion plates. By K. Maxwell This is a beautifully produced book in a large format with its own slipcase. The paper used is good quality heavy art paper and the images are beautifully reproduced, though many small sized images have been blown up to a large size to fill the page. The author provides a basic overview of the history of fashion plates but it is not an academic review of fashion plate history. There are already other books published which list the magazines and their fashion plates published from the 18th to 20th centuries The goal of this book is to show the interested reader a selection of fashion plates from 1778 to 1928 and to highlight their artistic beauty.All the fashion plates illustrated come from the Gladys Marcus library at the Fashion Institute of New York and each illustrated plate is given a fashion and social background so the reader can put the plate in historical context. There are many plates here that have never been reproduced before such as those from Belle Assemblee and some of the mid to late 19th century plates. The selection gives a good overview of how fashion changed in the 150 years they represent. You can also clearly see the later deterioration in the design quality of the plates as the fashion plate started to get supplanted by photography. My biggest disappointment with the selection was that for the years 1778-1787 reproduction plates from the beautiful 1912 Levy reprint of Galerie des modes were used rather than original period plates (this is also true for the Incroyables et mervelleuses plates) and that no plates from the lovely English 'Gallery of Fashion" were were included. This highlights a weakness in trying to use a single collection for a book like this and its the only reason the book hasn't been given 5 stars.For anyone interested in antique fashion plates I would recommend this book for their library. It has lots of wonderful eye candy and the author has put a lot of work into researching the background for the prints.

By s.westfield Not as thorough on the earlier 17th and 18 th cent fashion plates,a bit disappointing. ( though more rare ,they were producing them in the mid 17 th cent as well as the 18 th cent -which was only briefly covered.)

About the Author DJ Stout was the art director of Texas Monthly between 1987 and 1999, and he has been a partner in Pentagram’s Austin office since 2000. Have you ever wanted to express yourself, but have been in too much of a funk to feel like you can even think? Each page provokes thought, imagination and positivity. It was just what I needed to help me remember how quickly I can change in a positive way. Salli helps each doodler realize that by just making minor adjustments (for example changing the color or pattern of something), one can tweak their life into something even better than before! A side note, you do not have to be a talented artist to enjoy this book! I don't have any true artistic talent, but remember, anyone can doodle...and besides, it is your own private copy of the book, and no one else has to see your art if you don't want to share it! :)

It is formatted like a casual workbook with an emphasis on allowing time to think about each prompt given before trying to illustrate. I think this has a two-fold unintentional benefit by teaching teenagers to actually "ponder" and allow their own artistic compass to register instead of copy pasting things from Pinterest. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because the book could have been bigger to allow more room for drawing and it would be great if it were spiral bound to allow the pages to go flat.

The best part - you can be of any age to enjoy it - from my daughter who is four - to my mom who is 64. You can easily carry it in your bag anywhere you go, it is an approximate size of an ipad. The quotes are fun and will cheer you up. The tasks will make you think outside the box. I love doing these exercises anytime I feel stuck with my thoughts, or just chilling outside on a sunday morning, or even together with my 4-year old daughter as her ways of thinking is so much more surprising, fun and creative.This book would make a perfect gift to any adult. It is fun, calming, creative, positive and cheering. You will love it!

I read this in two days - felt I was riding along in this world with the characters. I liked the short chapter format and the multiple voices that made up the whole orchestra of the story. I hope that this author is off to the next book - looking forward to that!

By sbramow Mr. Yocum does an amazing job of casting his characters into a story that has touched my soul. It is about 3 children and their wretched families not knowing any better through generations of abuse and neglect. The story takes place during historically very tough times in Texas. It is about how the children's lives entwined and how they survive with the help of a few good people along the way. The book is beautifully written with a lot to offer it's readers. Never to be forgotten.

Taylor I found The Devil in Kilgore, Texas an incredible books on many levels. Historically, it tells about a severely depressed Texas town in the 1920’s who fortunes quickly turn about with the discovery of oil. Mr. Yocum captures what happens to the town and more interestingly what happens to the inhabitants of the town with the change in fortunes. His book also portrays the attempts to survive of two young brothers and their cousin in the face of almost complete abandonment by their parents. The fact that Mr. Yocum uses young individuals as his central characters makes the story both that much more appealing and appalling. As a book, it was difficult for me to put The Devil in Kilgore, Texas down and I look forward to reading Mr. Yocum’s next book.

"Kilgore" is not a story a reader simply sets aside and forgets with time By J Howie Mr. Yocum takes the reader into an era of time that symbolizes how Americans suffered from the nation's economic collapse into a depression that was accompanied by a drought that turned America's agriculture into a dust bowl. His story describes how children struggled, and how adults did what they had to do to survive. Then came the development of oil exploration, and the changes in fortune. Many of the human survivalists became opportunists. "Kilgore" is not a novel one reads and forgets. "Kilgore" remains in the reader's memory because Mr. Yocum writes about what happened circa 1929, but because of "Kilgore's" humanity, the reader can find examples of this brave human spirit even today.

Indeed, this book has covered a lot of topics about wines and has given me opportunity to be interested and get gauge myself on learning new ideas about wine and best choices. Aside from the fact that occasional consumption of wines are beneficial to our health plus the knowledge of having antioxidants that aids in minimizing harmful toxins in our body thus avoiding risks of heat ailments and other forms of diseases is a general concept. Lastly, knowing different styles and techniques of choosing right selections of wines that would go along with the foods served is also a huge boost of confidence every time there will be an occasion/celebration.

I have drank wine in the past (obviously) but had no idea there was so many ways to truly enjoy it. There are ways to train your palate, for example, and certain kinds of foods bring out various qualities in different kinds of wines. Maybe you knew this but I certainly didn’t. If you want to truly enjoy wines in a sophisticated way this book will get you up to speed quickly.

The McCrary Sisters are four in a group of eight siblings raised in Nashville by their mother and father, the Reverend Samuel McCrary, one of the founders of the Fairfield Four. I sat with the sisters one day in the very same dining room where they ate Mudear’s famous cooking and Ann McCrary told me her Daddy said Mudear wasn’t always a great cook. There is so much history out there that I have never really learned much about, and these books make it exciting to expereince history. You become so engrossed in the characters and the story as it goes through the Russian history and learn so much as you view it through the eyes of each character.The author makes you feel as if you are right there and know these people personally. In this book, as the people face another war, you feel the devastation and desperation they felt.I also love how the author interweaves faith and trust in God throughout the story in the characters lives. The books are very hard to put down and you'll want to read the entire series.

By twinterste I never would have thought that a series as big as the Russians would continue to be worth reading after the first couple of books! But this has to be one of the best series' I've ever read! I just get so caught up in the characters' lives each time I pick up one of the books. After war breaks out in Manchuria, Mariana travels there to be a nurse. But Mariana isn't ready for the horrors of the war where she meets her old friend Daniel Trent. Basil Anickin returns to St. Petersburg and plots a scheme to finally put an end to Mariana and all other people who loved Katrina. Everyone tries to cope with all the turbulence swirling around them and the country that they love so much. This book will definitely tug at your heartstrings and keep you interested and wanting more. The Dawning of Deliverance is a book I highly recommend for fans of The Russians not to miss!

I love this series, it just sucks you in and keeps you wanting more. The particular book #5 in the series is my favorite because it sweets across many countries and plots but still manages to keep it entertaining. You'll love this series!
